From pixels to paths in three steps

The tracer groups similar colors, follows their edges, and turns those regions into scalable SVG paths.

01

Upload

Choose a PNG, JPG, or JPEG up to 10 MB. Nothing is sent away for processing.

02

Trace and tune

Pick a preset, then adjust color count, smoothing, detail, transparency, and scale.

03

Inspect and export

Compare the raster with the SVG, review path count and file size, then download or copy the code.

Use the right source image

Automatic vector tracing is strongest when shapes and colors are clearly separated. It does not recreate every bitmap equally well.

Best for

Graphics with intentional edges and a small color palette.

  • Logos and brand marks
  • Icons, line art, and lettering
  • Flat-color illustrations
  • High-contrast Cricut and papercut designs

Less ideal for

Complex full-color photos trace with limited quality and can produce very large SVGs.

  • Portraits and natural scenes
  • Soft gradients and shadows
  • Fine texture or film grain
  • Low-resolution or blurry images

Presets are starting points

Logo / Line Art

Fewer colors and high detail preserve deliberate curves and corners.

Cut-File Start

A simplified two-color trace as a starting point for cut designs — verify layers, holes, and size in your cutting software before cutting.

Balanced

A versatile default for simple illustrations and graphics with a modest palette.

Vectorizer.ai charges $9.99/month for downloads; this tool is free with unlimited downloads. The services use different tracing approaches, so results will vary by image.

PNG to SVG questions

What images work best for PNG to SVG conversion?

Logos, icons, line art, simple flat-color graphics, lettering, and high-contrast Cricut or papercut designs trace best. Clean edges and a limited palette produce the most useful paths.

Does it work well on complex full-color photos?

Only to a limited degree. A photograph contains textures, gradients, shadows, and thousands of color variations, so automatic tracing can create many paths and lose detail. Use a simpler source image when possible.

Is this converter really free and unlimited?

Yes. Convert and download SVG files without an account, watermark, download quota, or paywall.

Do my image files get uploaded?

No. Tracing runs locally in your browser with imagetracerjs. Your image is not uploaded for conversion.

Which upload formats are supported?

PNG, JPG, and JPEG images up to 10 MB. Large images are downscaled to a maximum 1600 pixels on the longest side before tracing.

Can I use the result with Cricut?

As a starting point. Use the Cut-File Start preset for a simplified two-color trace, then verify layers, holes, and physical size in your design software before sending the file to a cutting machine. Test-cut first.

How is this different from Vectorizer.ai?

Vectorizer.ai uses a commercial AI vectorization service and charges $9.99/month for downloads. This converter uses open-source imagetracerjs locally and offers free, unlimited downloads. Its tracing approach and output quality are different.

What tracing settings can I adjust?

Color count controls palette complexity. Smoothing softens noise. Detail changes path accuracy. You can also remove near-white backgrounds and export at 1× to 4× scale.
